"DOS" stands for Disc Operating System. It is completely command-line oriented; that is, one may run the system exclusively via key commands. Although many Graphic User Interface overlays are available, one is never forced to use any because every operation may be accomplished right at the command line. The latest versions of DOS are very powerful and can be asked to do or automate just about any computer task. If you want to free yourself from the drudgery of desk-rodent point & clicking, huge bloatware programs like Windoze which consume more resources than are available in your home town, and wish to be relieved of the general nuisance & tedium of Graphic User Interfaces, upgrade to DOS! On this website are DOS Batch File Instructionals and Examples. There are discussions of DOS Command Switches and Exit Codes, another on Variables, and one on DOS Characters and Symbols. Two sections review DOS File Extensions. General DOS Tips are followed by an examination of Fallacies commonly held regarding DOS. A section then devotes itself to Humour and Observations of DOS & its competitors. Finally, are pages linking to over one thousand DOS Websites world wide and a list of publications. |
